Race to fund equal access to neurosurgery education for all students!
The 2020 Fundraiser Has Concluded. Check Back Soon for 2021 Race Information
The need for extracurricular training is becoming more essential as medical technology continues to advance faster and faster. In order to prevent disparities in representation among our future brain and spine doctors, we must keep specialty medical education openly accessible to all students. Join the virtual 5k today, run anytime during the flex period, and help us fund equitable neurosurgical education for every student from every background and location, regardless of means.
Proceeds support the following educational activities for 2021:
- AANS Medical Student Chapters
- On-site Training Camps and Virtual Training Camp
- 40+ Online Webinars and Seminars
- Development of free, online resources (i.e. Video Library, Brain & Spine Report)
- Growth of new courses and learning resources

*Registrations after October 9th may not receive race packages before the flex period.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I raise money for my aans Medical student chapter?
When registering, indicate which academic institution and AANS Medical Student Chapter you wish to represent. After the conclusion of the fundraiser, a check for 30% of all proceeds from registrants representing your chapter will be disbursed to your student group to help fund your chapter's in-house academic activities.

Additionally, 30% of donation proceeds given in support of a specific runner will contribute to that runner's represented chapter.
How does the virtual race actually work?
Race app information will be emailed to all registrants closer to race time! Once you have access to the app, you can run the race any time during the flex period (October 17-24) - just bring your smart phone with you and track your run on the app.
what awards can I or my aans medical student chapter win?
Awards will be given to individuals for:
- Slowest walk time
- Fastest run time
- Fastest bike time
- Best costume run (requires photo submission)
- Best companion walk (requires photo submission with your pet)

Awards will be given to AANS Medical Student Chapters for:
- Most supporting runners
- Most funds raised
- Slowest average walk
- Fastest average run
- Fastest average bike
- Most companion participation

Check back with this FAQ frequently, our fundraising team will be adding new awards throughout September/October as we get closer to race time.
do i have to be a medical student or doctor to participate?
Absolutely not! Anyone can participate - we welcome everyone to contribute to the mission of training tomorrow's brain and spine surgeons. Promoting broad representation of individual backgrounds, race/ethnicity, and means among our future generation of doctors through open access education is a community wide effort.
If I sponsor the race, how do I signup multiple runners?
Our team will reach out to all sponsors to collect individual runner's information.
can i support without running?
Absolutely, our community can donate online directly on this page (see section above) or through our general donation page.
Can i support a specific runner?
Yes. In order to indicate your support for a specific runner, be sure to use the electronic donation portal on this page. When submitting your donation information, you will be asked which runner you are supporting. Your supported runner's AANS Medical Student Chapter will receive 30% of your donation.
when will i receive my race package (t-shirts/nameplates/bandannas)?
Our volunteer team of medical students and doctors will personally pack and ship every registrant's race package approximately 2 weeks before the race. Check back for updates regarding the last registration date that guarantees receipt of your race package before race week.

Note: last minute registrants may not receive their race package before race week.
